TEXAS DRY

This weeks Fly Art entry, Round 1:

Texas Dry

Inspired by a piece of tin I saw at the grocery store last night that was painted like a Texas flag. The fly was borrowed from The Dry with a slight modification to the hook. The flag was completed in ArcGIS. This will soon be painted on a piece of tin and mounted to the outside of my new shed. Check back later for Round 2 of this weeks fly art entries!

THE FLY

This weeks Fly Art entry:

The Fly

A bit of iPad fun, merging old school, traditional salmon fly and new some new fangled “Fly” fun. I’ve had a fascination with spey hooks for a while now. With their classic lines and design they just scream class and seem to represent the tradition that is old European fly fishing.

I went through 5 variations of body design on this drawing. Trying to merge what was on the picture I was referencing and what I had in my mind for this drawing. Not being satisfied with the way the feathers and hair that originally made up the flies body were looking and with the matter of time working against me… I flipped through some of the add-on brush options in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro and found the bugs and then the FLY pattern and with a few strokes of the stylus, the end result just “flew” into place. Enjoy!

BLUEGILL REDO

This weeks fish art entry:

Bluegill Redo

Full disclosure: I wasn’t feeling very creative this week! But last night around 10:00 pm, I picked up the iPad and the first thing that I came across was an image of the Bluegill sketch I did a couple of weeks ago. The second was a couple of  screen shots of some Pen and Ink trout drawings done by Joel DeJong from A Year on The Fly and HexFishing.com. You should spend time on both of these sites. You will not be disappointed in the quality of the art and products available!  After 2.5 hours of drooling browsing and drawing later, this is what you get… The Bluegill Redo.

Thanks for playing along, and remember – The fish are always bigger on the other side of the river – now Get Outside and do something fishy!

Sharpies and Tax Evasion

This weeks Fish and Fly Art entries:

Sharpie and Hardi

This was done, in a matter of minutes, on the back of some HardiPanel siding I was cutting, using a Sharpie and a Home Depot construction pencil. I had just done a quick check of the Twitters and saw Jason Borgers, Drawing Fish and Flies 52 entry for week 12. < Click that link for my inspiration! If you don’t follow along with Jason’s and Jeff Kennedy’s – DF&F 52 initiative, YOU SHOULD! These guys do amazing work and are probably the most responsible for me starting to draw and share my weekly entries with the masses!

Tax Evasion

A quick, iPad / Autodesk Sketch Book Pro, sketch I did last night while @EnaSeuss was doing the taxes. Hence the name!

So there you have it, nothing fancy or flashy, just a guy with a sharpie and a finger drawing stuff. Thanks for playing along, please take me outside to do something fun with me this weekend!

If you listen in over on the Twitters you might now that I am on the tailing end of a 7 day, self-imposed, Social Media vacation. No worries, I’ll be back in full force on Monday morning. I just needed my annual break from the constant barrage of misinformation.

With that in mind… I’m out! Enjoy that pretty picture up there! Did you notice the change to the blog header? Be sure to find all of your Easter Eggs! Most importantly, Thanks for playing along, now GET OUTSIDE and do something fun!

Guadalupe Bass

This weeks fish art entry comes from some inspiration I caught last weekend at FlyStock, out on the Llano River. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Brandon Robinson, of One Bug Is Fake fame, for all of his hard work and efforts in organizing and hosting this great event! It got me out of the house and out of yard work for a day, fly fishing on “new to me” water, hooked up to my biggest Guadalupe Bass ever, turned on to some awesome new music and a tad bit sun burned. In my eyes…that’s a smashing success! Thanks again my friend!

On with the show – This weeks entry…Hand drawn, Guadalupe Bass, chasing a Slump Buster. Completed entirely with a mechanical, 0.7 mm, Skilcraft pencil…(with some iPhone, Photoshop app, magic applied)

The Guadie

And the fish in all of it’s glory…

The Real Guadie

Thanks for playing along, click a link, show some love, then get outside and do something fun!

The Copper Johnson

The 2 nd of this weeks fish and fly art posts:

I touched base with Jean-Paul Lipton, aka Roughfisher.com about drawing some of his flies over the weekend and he has graciously agreed to let me have full artistic license with some of his flies. I could go into great detail about the quality, vibrant colors and creativity he puts into tying his flies but, I would rather you spend some time on his site, ogling at everything he has to offer! CLICK HERE

For this weeks Fly Art entry I’ve chosen a Roughfisher creation named ‘Copper Johnson‘. A traditional Copper John…with an attitude…and a bit of a fro!

The Copper Johnson

Completed entirely on the iPad using Autodesk Sketchbook Pro and GIMP to insert the watermark.

Thanks for playing along, now get outside and do something fun!
